Witnessing her evolution has been nothing short of inspiring, discovering a passion for cooking, and turning meal times into a loving gesture for her family. This newfound confidence and zest for life are paving the way towards independent living, a goal she is now eagerly embracing.

On the way to mechanical dreams!

We recently celebrated the inspiring journey of our client B, who came to us with a passion for motorcycle mechanics but needed a boost in confidence and teamwork skills.

After a six-session internship at one of our affiliate Activated Mentoring cafes focussed on lifting confidence and people skills, B transitioned to another partner cafe, which also functioned as a coffee roastery and coffee machine service agency.

Here B further expanded his people skills and picked up real-world mechanical skills as he worked with the coffee machines.

Based upon his progress, B has just secured a paid traineeship as a Marine Mechanic (boat motors), marking a significant milestone toward achieving his dream job as a Motorcycle mechanic.

Governor's choice!

Matt, who lives with Down’s Syndrome, has relished ongoing work experience at a local hospitality business where he has excelled with Barista and culinary skills, including making muffins, taking orders and making a range of barista coffees.

As part of his transition to independence, Matt has compiled a book of selected and tested recipes, also tested at his own 18th birthday celebrations with his home class and leaders from his school. He also created and edited a video of his Year 12 experiences.

Matt’s determination and wonderful desire to strive for his best and to be independent, coupled with his wonderful sense of humour, makes him a much-loved and respected member of the school community.

Finding Wings in Port Pirie

A wonderful period with new partner, Little Beans in Port Pirie, with clients growing in self-confidence, skills, and well-being. Engaging in coffee making, cooking, and customer service, they demonstrated enhanced competence and independence, even turning challenges like accidents into learning moments. Their eagerness for continued growth in the Activated Mentoring program underscores the sessions' success in fostering personal and professional development, with a focus on skill enhancement and safety.

From being unsure at first to becoming a key member of our café teams, Jayden's growth has been incredible and inspiring to us all. His hard work, joy, and positive attitude have truly made a lasting impression. Jayden's story shows us all how much we can achieve when we face our fears and try new things. Your progress has inspired not just you but everyone around you, proving how much we can grow by stepping out of our comfort zones.

Lillian's journey within the mentoring program has been nothing short of remarkable. Initially joining as a mentee, her transformation has been profound. Now, Lillian takes on a pivotal role in Activated mentoring at two local cafes. Her dedication and growth have also led her to step up as a support teacher to other mentors, sharing her knowledge and experiences with compassion and insight.
